Nothing has changed in Minnesota. Hitler has been replaced by Mussolini and the masked thugs of ICE are just as bad as they always have been. In addition, these hell hole detention centers are secretly killing, raping and abusing people with no oversight. We should all be wearing masks to hide our faces in shame.
The discussion of Gettysburg compared to Vicksburg is interesting, but doesn't speak to the differences of the battles in the west compared to those in the east. The human statistics are very different as was pointed out. The fact the Confederates were so far north and had no real target other than sending fear through the civilian population worked until they were caught by the Union at Gettysburg. The closeness of the Eastern Newspapers made this the easy story, where Vicksburg in Mississippi is a long ways away and the victory happened at the same time and very much a win far more important than Gettysburg. Western wins were far more the case than in the east, and many were in the very heart of the South, such as Atlanta and Charleston.

Even Lincoln’s 1860 victory didn’t bring certainty—he feared Congress might not certify or honor the Electoral College results. History reminds us that turning points don’t end struggle; they redefine it. We may face nine months of one kind of uncertainty, followed by years of another. Like Gettysburg, this moment asks for endurance, moral clarity, and faith that perseverance, not premature celebration, bends history forward. We have been often premature in declaring turning points and even more modest cracks in the Trump era.
Thank you for this, Mr. Cain. I fear that the real aim of this paramilitary approach toward immigrants and refugees is actually to intimidate voters this fall. If the mid-terms are manipulated enough, we may never get to all the underlying woes of the nation…as Congress will be permanently neutered.
